Sentiment
Scores Ahead Of Earnings Reports
Earnings season unofficially kicks off
today with Alcoa. According to our Sentiment Scores, sentiment is
relatively lukewarm towards the stock, despite heavy losses over the
past year.
The tables below show the top 10 most- and
least-optimistic Scores for stocks reporting during each of the next 4
weeks. This week, there aren't that many reporting, but it ramps
up during the next couple of weeks.
Typically, we'd be looking for stocks with
very optimistic Scores to have a big hurdle to overcome in their
earnings reports. If they miss expectations, it should have a
negative impact on the stock. Likewise, stocks with very
pessimistic sentiment shouldn't have to beat by much to relieve possible
buyers...and scare short-sellers.

Next week is going to be key, with
Microsoft and Google both reporting late in the week, and both with very
high expectations.
The week after that, we have Apple early
in the week, and many financials reporting all through the week. A
large number of them have very poor sentiment.
