Themes from the latest Commitments of Traders report, covering futures positions through Tuesday include “smart money” hedgers holding:

  • Massive shorts in gold and silver, essentially unchanged from prior weeks

  • A new record short position in sugar, matching the previous extreme set in mid-January 2008

  • A rapidly increasing short position in soybeans, now the largest since March 2014.
