Waning Consumer Confidence
The latest Conference Board survey for March shows that consumer attitudes toward their present conditions has waned. From a multi-year high to an 11-month low, there is some evidence that sentiment has peaked for this cycle.
Other times this has happened, the S&P 500 struggled to hold any gains over the next 9-12 months in particular. Other than 1995, which some are suggesting is a good template for our current conditions, risk in stocks was markedly higher than reward.
